Day 21 - The War Memorial In Seoul

On Sunday we went to the War Memorial in Seoul. This is a free museum and memorial that shows Korea's history of war and weapons. When we arrived, there were flags of the countries that fought in the Korean war as part of the United Nations forces. We spotted the flag of New Zealand. The first thing we saw inside was a memorial to the soldiers that had died in the Korean War. The war memorial building was huge and was over three stories high. The exhibits were about all the different wars that  Korea has been in, starting from about 300 BC. There were lots of models and also large amounts of weapons. On the bottom floor there were several replicas of old wooden war boats - my favorite was the turtle ship which has a wooden top and metal spikes on the top. The was a display about New Zealand since we has taken part in the Korean war. It listed where all the war memorials are in Korea and New Zealand. There is one in Christchurch - it is at the Halswell Quarry Park in the Korean sister city gardens and is a memorial bridge. Outside the War Memorial building in Seoul there were heaps of tanks, missiles and planes.
